Thursday, 1st Week

I Sm 4:1-11; Ps 44: 10-11,14-15, 24-25.
Mk 1: 40-45.
Theme: “If You will, You Can Make Me Clean.”

Theme of today’s Gospel is Healing. Leper who was suffering from leprary kneel down and implore Jesus: “if you will, you can make me clean.” Moved with pity, he stretch out his hand and touched him and said “I will, be cleaned.” Immediately the leprosy left.

Healing has its own process. Firstly, it is to acknowledge one’s own disease. Acknowledging is the first step toward healing. Leper acknowledged his disease. He found the need of healing his disease. All of us one or the other way we are in some sort of disease. If we need to be healed, we have to acknowledge own disease and identify them. To work on oneself is cross.  What are our disease? Do we acknowledge them?

Secondly, Leper found the healer and he put faith, trust and belief in Him. Healer is Jesus. He firmly believed in the presence of Jesus amongst his disease. It needs humility.  It requires imploring and kneeling as Leper did in front of Jesus. Do we value the presence of Jesus in our midst when we are undergoing through problems and diseases or do we believe in our own strength?

Thirdly, it is about the choice and reversal of mentality. Leper put the Sensio in front of Jesus where Jesus need to make choice to heal or not. Healing involves the decision making. Most of the time, we do not like to be healed, we like to revenge or dwell on the past injuries. We do not make choice to be healed. Do we make a choice between healing or to suffer in our disease?

Fourth, Extra step and personal involvement are necessary. We need to take risk if we need to be healed. It is hard-path. Image about the situation of leper, he was suffering both religious aspect and political aspect. He was considered impure and sinner. He was cut off from the community and he was isolated but he took extra-step to reach to Jesus. When we suffer in life, do we make extra-step to be healed?

Let us pray to God for this grace that Jesus our Lord and God give us the grace so that that we may acknowledge our disease and find the healer and make a choice and make extra step towards our healing. Amen.
