Jesus is the Bread of life

Today’s liturgical reading invites us to yearn for the eternal bread than the tangible bread. The eternal bread, Jesus  brings the transformation in us and he gives eternal life to whoever have faith in Jesus. 

The manna in the desert was a physical sustenance, provided to sustain the Israelites on their journey. Yet, it was a temporary provision.  It nouishes just our bodies. The Israelites, having witnessed the miraculous parting of the Red Sea, might have expected a constant stream of wonders. But the harsh reality of the desert soon replaced the euphoria of liberation. They found themselves surrounded by vast emptiness, their stomachs growling in protest. Their complaints are not merely about physical hunger, but also a reflection of a deeper spiritual hunger - a longing for security, for a tangible sign of God’s presence. It is essential to acknowledge that our own lives echo the Israelites' journey. We too face deserts, both literal and metaphorical. We encounter moments of scarcity, of feeling lost and alone. In these times, like the Israelites, we might question God's providence, allowing doubt to cloud our faith. Yet, God's response is swift and compassionate. He promises to rain down bread from heaven, a daily sustenance, a tangible sign of His love and care. The manna, a mysterious gift, becomes a symbol of God's abundant grace. It is not a magical solution to all their problems, but a daily reminder of God's faithfulness. Like the manna, God's grace is a daily bread for our souls. It sustains us through life's challenges, nourishes our spirits, and gives us strength to persevere. It is a gift freely given, requiring only our trust and gratitude.

The crowds, amazed by the miracle of the loaves and fishes, seek him out not for spiritual nourishment, but for more bread. They are focused on the physical, the tangible, the immediate. It's a familiar human tendency: to seek quick fixes, material comforts, and easy answers. Yet, Jesus, in His divine wisdom, redirects their attention. He offers them something far more substantial, more enduring: Himself, the Bread of Life. Jesus declares, "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst." Jesus, on the other hand, offers eternal life. He is the bread that comes down from heaven, the bread that nourishes our souls. 

Ephesians 4:17 - "So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking."  These verses emphasize the transformative power of Christ in a believer's life. Paul contrasts the old way of living, characterized by ignorance and sin, with the new life available through faith in Jesus. In Old life, the Gentiles lived in darkness, their minds dominated by empty and futile thinking. Their lives were marked by sin and corruption. In new life, Christians have been taught the truth about Christ and have received a new identity. They are called to put away their old sinful nature and embrace a new life characterized by righteousness and holiness. This transformation is rooted in the renewing of the mind, allowing them to think and act according to God's will.

My dear friends, as we ponder the words of Jesus, let us examine our own hearts. Are we seeking merely the bread of this world, or are we hungering for the Bread of Life? Are we satisfied with superficial pleasures, or do we yearn for a deeper connection with God?

GESÙ È IL PANE DELLA VITA
"Io sono il pane della vita;
chi viene a me non avrà mai fame,
e chi crede in me non avrà mai sete".
Eso 16:2-4, 12-15; Efesini 4:17, 20-24; Giov 6,24-35

 L'odierna lettura liturgica ci invita a desiderare il pane eterno piuttosto che il pane tangibile. Il pane eterno, Gesù porta la trasformazione in noi e dona la vita eterna a chiunque ha fede in Gesù.

La manna nel deserto era un sostentamento fisico, fornito per sostenere gli israeliti nel loro viaggio. Tuttavia, si trattava di una disposizione temporanea.  Nutre solo i nostri corpi. Gli israeliti, avendo assistito alla miracolosa divisione del Mar Rosso, potevano aspettarsi un flusso continuo di meraviglie. Ma la dura realtà del deserto ha presto sostituito l'euforia della liberazione. Si ritrovarono circondati da un vasto vuoto, con lo stomaco che brontolava in segno di protesta. Le loro lamentele non riguardano solo la fame fisica, ma anche il riflesso di una fame spirituale più profonda, un desiderio di sicurezza, di un segno tangibile della presenza di Dio. È essenziale riconoscere che la nostra vita riecheggia il cammino degli Israeliti. Anche noi ci troviamo di fronte a deserti, sia letterali che metaforici. Incontriamo momenti di scarsità, di sentirsi persi e soli. In questi tempi, come gli Israeliti, potremmo mettere in discussione la provvidenza di Dio, permettendo al dubbio di offuscare la nostra fede. Eppure, la risposta di Dio è rapida e compassionevole. Egli promette di far piovere dal cielo del pane, sostentamento quotidiano, segno tangibile del suo amore e della sua cura. La manna, dono misterioso, diventa simbolo dell'abbondante grazia di Dio. Non è una soluzione magica a tutti i loro problemi, ma un promemoria quotidiano della fedeltà di Dio. Come la manna, la grazia di Dio è pane quotidiano per le nostre anime. Ci sostiene nelle sfide della vita, nutre il nostro spirito e ci dà la forza di perseverare. È un dono gratuito, che richiede solo la nostra fiducia e gratitudine.

Le folle, stupite dal miracolo dei pani e dei pesci, lo cercano non per nutrimento spirituale, ma per altro pane. Sono concentrati sul fisico, sul tangibile, sull'immediato. È una tendenza umana familiare: cercare soluzioni rapide, comfort materiali e risposte facili. Eppure, Gesù, nella Sua divina saggezza, reindirizza la loro attenzione. Egli offre loro qualcosa di molto più sostanziale, di più duraturo: se stesso, il pane della vita. Gesù dichiara: "Io sono il pane della vita. Chi viene a me non avrà mai fame e chi crede in me non avrà mai sete.Gesù, d'altra parte, offre la vita eterna. Egli è il pane che scende dal cielo, il pane che nutre le nostre anime.

Efesini 4:17 - "Perciò vi dico questo, e insisto su di esso nel Signore, affinché non viviate più come fanno i Gentili, nella vanità del loro pensiero."  Questi versetti sottolineano il potere trasformativo di Cristo nella vita di un credente. Paolo contrappone il vecchio modo di vivere, caratterizzato dall'ignoranza e dal peccato, con la nuova vita disponibile attraverso la fede in Gesù. Nella Vecchia vita, i Gentili vivevano nelle tenebre, le loro menti dominate da pensieri vuoti e futili. La loro vita è stata segnata dal peccato e dalla corruzione. Nella nuova vita, ai cristiani è stata insegnata la verità su Cristo e hanno ricevuto una nuova identità. Sono chiamati a mettere da parte la loro vecchia natura peccaminosa e ad abbracciare una nuova vita caratterizzata da rettitudine e santità. Questa trasformazione è radicata nel rinnovamento della mente, che le permette di pensare e agire secondo la volontà di Dio.

Miei cari amici, mentre meditiamo sulle parole di Gesù, esaminiamo il nostro cuore. Stiamo cercando solo il pane di questo mondo, o abbiamo fame del Pane della Vita? Ci accontentiamo di piaceri superficiali o aneliamo a una connessione più profonda con Dio?

ಯೇಸು ಜೀವದ ರೊಟ್ಟಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ
"ನಾನು ಜೀವದ ರೊಟ್ಟಿ;
ನನ್ನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಬರುವವರು ಎಂದಿಗೂ ಹಸಿವಿನಿಂದ ಬಳಲುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
ನನ್ನನ್ನು ನಂಬುವವನು ಎಂದಿಗೂ ಬಾಯಾರಿಕೆಯಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ."

ಇಂದಿನ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ವಾಚನವು ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟವಾದ ರೊಟ್ಟಿಗಿಂತ ನಿತ್ಯವಾದ ರೊಟ್ಟಿಗಾಗಿ ಹಂಬಲಿಸಲು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಆಹ್ವಾನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ನಿತ್ಯ ರೊಟ್ಟಿಯಾದ ಯೇಸು ನಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಿವರ್ತನೆಯನ್ನು ತರುತ್ತಾನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಯೇಸುವಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯಿಡುವವರಿಗೆ ನಿತ್ಯಜೀವವನ್ನು ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾನೆ.

ಮರುಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಮನ್ನಾ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರ ಪ್ರಯಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಪೋಷಿಸಲು ಒದಗಿಸಲಾದ ಭೌತಿಕ ಪೋಷಣೆಯಾಗಿತ್ತು  . ಆದರೂ, ಇದು ತಾತ್ಕಾಲಿಕ ನಿಬಂಧನೆಯಾಗಿತ್ತು.  ಇದು ನಮ್ಮ ದೇಹವನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ಪೋಷಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಕೆಂಪು ಸಮುದ್ರದ ಪವಾಡಸದೃಶ ಅಗಲುವಿಕೆಗೆ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಯಾದ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರು, ಅದ್ಭುತಗಳ ನಿರಂತರ ಪ್ರವಾಹವನ್ನು ನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿಸಿರಬಹುದು. ಆದರೆ ಮರುಭೂಮಿಯ ಕಠೋರ ವಾಸ್ತವವು ಶೀಘ್ರದಲ್ಲೇ ವಿಮೋಚನೆಯ ಉಲ್ಲಾಸವನ್ನು ಬದಲಿಸಿತು. ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಸುತ್ತಲೂ ವಿಶಾಲವಾದ ಖಾಲಿತನದಿಂದ ಸುತ್ತುವರೆದಿದ್ದರು, ಅವರ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಗಳು ಪ್ರತಿಭಟನೆಯಿಂದ ಕಿರುಚುತ್ತಿದ್ದವು.  ಅವರ ದೂರುಗಳು ಕೇವಲ ಶಾರೀರಿಕ ಹಸಿವಿನ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ, ಆಳವಾದ ಆಧ್ಯಾತ್ಮಿಕ ಹಸಿವಿನ ಪ್ರತಿಬಿಂಬವೂ  ಆಗಿದೆ - ಭದ್ರತೆಯ ಹಂಬಲ, ದೇವರ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತಿಯ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟ ಸಂಕೇತಕ್ಕಾಗಿ. ನಮ್ಮ ಸ್ವಂತ ಜೀವನವು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರ ಪ್ರಯಾಣವನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿಧ್ವನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಅತ್ಯಾವಶ್ಯಕ. ನಾವೂ ಸಹ ಅಕ್ಷರಶಃ ಮತ್ತು ರೂಪಕವಾಗಿ ಮರುಭೂಮಿಗಳನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ. ನಾವು ಕೊರತೆಯ ಕ್ಷಣಗಳನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ, ಕಳೆದುಹೋದ ಮತ್ತು ಒಂಟಿತನವನ್ನು ಅನುಭವಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಈ ಸಮಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರಂತೆ, ನಾವು ದೇವರ ಆವಶ್ಯಕತೆಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರಶ್ನಿಸಬಹುದು, ಮತ್ತು ಸಂದೇಹವು ನಮ್ಮ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಮಸುಕಾಗಿಸಲು ಅನುವು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಡಬಹುದು. ಆದರೂ, ದೇವರ ಪ್ರತಿಕ್ರಿಯೆಯು ತ್ವರಿತ ಮತ್ತು ಸಹಾನುಭೂತಿಯಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದೆ. ಅವನು ಸ್ವರ್ಗದಿಂದ ರೊಟ್ಟಿಯನ್ನು ಸುರಿಸುವುದಾಗಿ ವಾಗ್ದಾನಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ, ಇದು ದೈನಂದಿನ ಪೋಷಣೆಯಾಗಿದೆ, ಇದು ಅವನ ಪ್ರೀತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಕಾಳಜಿಯ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟ ಸಂಕೇತವಾಗಿದೆ. ಮನ್ನಾ ಎಂಬ ನಿಗೂಢ ಕೊಡುಗೆಯು ದೇವರ ಹೇರಳವಾದ ಕೃಪೆಯ ಸಂಕೇತವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದು ಅವರ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಮಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ಪರಿಹಾರವಲ್ಲ, ಆದರೆ ದೇವರ ನಂಬಿಗಸ್ತಿಕೆಯ ದೈನಂದಿನ ಜ್ಞಾಪನೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಮನ್ನಾದಂತೆ, ದೇವರ ಅನುಗ್ರಹವು ನಮ್ಮ ಆತ್ಮಗಳಿಗೆ ದೈನಂದಿನ ರೊಟ್ಟಿಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದು ಜೀವನದ ಸವಾಲುಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಪೋಷಿಸುತ್ತದೆ, ನಮ್ಮ ಆತ್ಮಗಳನ್ನು ಪೋಷಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪಟ್ಟುಹಿಡಿಯಲು ನಮಗೆ ಶಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದು ಉಚಿತವಾಗಿ ನೀಡಲಾದ ಉಡುಗೊರೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದು, ನಮ್ಮ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

 ರೊಟ್ಟಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಮೀನುಗಳ ಪವಾಡದಿಂದ ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯಚಕಿತರಾದ ಜನಸಮೂಹವು ಅವನನ್ನು ಆಧ್ಯಾತ್ಮಿಕ ಪೋಷಣೆಗಾಗಿ ಅಲ್ಲ, ಆದರೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ರೊಟ್ಟಿಗಾಗಿ  ಹುಡುಕುತ್ತದೆ.ಅವು ಭೌತಿಕ, ಪ್ರತ್ಯಕ್ಷ, ತಕ್ಷಣದ ವಿಷಯಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಕೇಂದ್ರೀಕೃತವಾಗಿವೆ. ಇದು ಪರಿಚಿತ ಮಾನವ ಪ್ರವೃತ್ತಿ: ತ್ವರಿತ ಪರಿಹಾರಗಳು, ಭೌತಿಕ ಸೌಕರ್ಯಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಸುಲಭ ಉತ್ತರಗಳನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕುವುದು. ಆದರೂ, ಯೇಸು ತನ್ನ ದೈವಿಕ ವಿವೇಕದಿಂದ ಅವರ ಗಮನವನ್ನು ಬೇರೆಡೆಗೆ ತಿರುಗಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಅವನು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಗಣನೀಯವಾದ, ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಶಾಶ್ವತವಾದದ್ದನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತಾನೆ: ಸ್ವತಃ, ಜೀವದ ರೊಟ್ಟಿ. ಯೇಸು ಘೋಷಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ, "ನಾನು ಜೀವದ ರೊಟ್ಟಿ. ನನ್ನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಬರುವವನು ಎಂದಿಗೂ ಹಸಿವಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಮತ್ತು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ನಂಬುವವನು ಎಂದಿಗೂ ಬಾಯಾರಿಕೆಯಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ."  ಆದರೆ ಯೇಸು ನಿತ್ಯಜೀವವನ್ನು ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಅವನು ಸ್ವರ್ಗದಿಂದ ಇಳಿಯುವ ರೊಟ್ಟಿ, ನಮ್ಮ ಆತ್ಮಗಳನ್ನು ಪೋಷಿಸುವ ರೊಟ್ಟಿ.

ಎಫೆಸ 4:17 - "ಆದುದರಿಂದ ನಾನು ನಿಮಗೆ ಇದನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತೇನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅನ್ಯಜನರ ಆಲೋಚನೆಯ ನಿಷ್ಪ್ರಯೋಜಕತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನೀವು ಇನ್ನು ಮುಂದೆ ಜೀವಿಸಬಾರದೆಂದು ಕರ್ತನಲ್ಲಿ ಒತ್ತಾಯಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ."  ಈ ವಚನಗಳು ಒಬ್ಬ ವಿಶ್ವಾಸಿಯ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಪರಿವರ್ತಕ ಶಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಒತ್ತಿಹೇಳುತ್ತವೆ. ಪೌಲನು ಅಜ್ಞಾನ ಮತ್ತು ಪಾಪದಿಂದ ನಿರೂಪಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿರುವ ಹಳೆಯ ಜೀವನ ವಿಧಾನವನ್ನು ಯೇಸುವಿನ ಮೇಲಿನ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಲಭ್ಯವಿರುವ ಹೊಸ ಜೀವನದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಹೋಲಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಹಳೆಯ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ, ಅನ್ಯಜನರು ಕತ್ತಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು, ಅವರ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಖಾಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ನಿಷ್ಪ್ರಯೋಜಕ ಆಲೋಚನೆಗಳಿಂದ ಪ್ರಾಬಲ್ಯ ಹೊಂದಿತ್ತು. ಅವರ ಜೀವನವು ಪಾಪ ಮತ್ತು ಭ್ರಷ್ಟಾಚಾರದಿಂದ ಗುರುತಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿತ್ತು. ಹೊಸ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ, ಕ್ರೈಸ್ತರಿಗೆ ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಕುರಿತಾದ ಸತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಕಲಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಹೊಸ ಗುರುತನ್ನು ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಹಳೆಯ ಪಾಪದ ಸ್ವಭಾವವನ್ನು ಬದಿಗಿಟ್ಟು ನೀತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಪರಿಶುದ್ಧತೆಯಿಂದ ನಿರೂಪಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ಹೊಸ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸಲು ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಈ ರೂಪಾಂತರವು ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ನವೀಕರಿಸುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇರೂರಿದೆ, ಇದು ದೇವರ ಚಿತ್ತಕ್ಕೆ ಅನುಗುಣವಾಗಿ ಯೋಚಿಸಲು ಮತ್ತು ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಲು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಅನುವು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ.

ನನ್ನ ಪ್ರಿಯ ಸ್ನೇಹಿತರೇ, ನಾವು ಯೇಸುವಿನ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನು ಕುರಿತು ಆಲೋಚಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗ, ನಮ್ಮ ಸ್ವಂತ ಹೃದಯಗಳನ್ನು ಪರೀಕ್ಷಿಸೋಣ. ನಾವು ಕೇವಲ ಈ ಲೋಕದ ರೊಟ್ಟಿಯನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇವೆಯೇ ಅಥವಾ ಜೀವದ ರೊಟ್ಟಿಗಾಗಿ ಹಸಿದಿದ್ದೇವೆಯೇ?ನಾವು ಮೇಲ್ನೋಟದ ಸುಖಭೋಗಗಳಿಂದ ತೃಪ್ತರಾಗಿದ್ದೇವೆಯೇ, ಅಥವಾ ದೇವರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಆಳವಾದ ಸಂಪರ್ಕಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಹಂಬಲಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆಯೇ?
